Ask for More Jackson, Parents, MDE Team Up for Literacy Success

The Literacy- Based Promotion Act states that all 3rd graders in Mississippi must score a level three (3) on the English Language Arts (ELA) part of the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) test to be promoted to the 4th grade.

Ask for More Jackson partnered with Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) Literacy Coaches to host a Parents as Partners information session for 3rd grade and other interested parents on March 6, 2019 in the Community Room of the Jackson Medical Mall. MDE Coaches Cartessia Angrum and Lakesha Doyle presented information on the Literacy-Based Act, Parents as Partners, MAAP Assessment for 3rd grade, Good Cause Exemptions, Tips for Parents and Families, Sample Test Items, and a Parent Read-at-Home plan. Thirty Four (34) parents were engaged in this session. Ask for More Jackson continues to work with schools, parents, and the community to improve the lives of all children.
