Dawson Parents Teaming for Literacy Success

Parents Teaming for Literacy Success (PTLS)  at Dawson Elementary School
PTLS is a different approach to the parent-teacher relationship in an effort to develop and facilitate an authentic, culturally relevant model for parent engagement, empowerment, and community. Parents are partners in their children’s learning in the PTLS program.

With teachers, other parents and the school itself, Ask for More Jackson helps establish a community of learners and learning through literacy sessions that help parents understand how their children learn, grow, and mentally process language for the acquisition of literacy skills.

Parents work with teachers using literacy data, setting literacy benchmarks for their children, learning to use parent-friendly materials, which in turn parents use with their children at home.
